Now is the time to start planning a glass room or conservatory extension for your home.

According to builder and home improvement specialist Ian Cubitt, homeowners who wanted glass room extensions for next winter should plan now.

"As with any major home improvement or addition, homeowners have to take their time in the planning process with consultation, quotes, financing and local government approval processes," he said.

"In some instances, this can take longer than most people think."

"During winter, when the sun is lower, a glass room has the ability to catch sunlight and actually transfer it in to the adjoining room."

"Not only does this create a warmer more friendly feel to the home, it helps reduce the cost of artificial lighting during the day and creates a light and open living space," he said.

"Options and accessories such as louvred windows, tinted glazing optiins, screens, roofing materials and doors should also be considered to assist with improved ventilation during the warmer months."
